Lip Augmentation
Everyone wants pouty lips these days. And many are turning to the knife to get
the look they desire.
Choices
- Collagen
-
Using collagen to increase the size of the lips is the most common and easy option. A material
called Zyplast is often used. Prior to injecting the substance, a skin test is performed
to see if there is an allergy to the material.
-
It takes twenty to thirty minutes to perform the enhancement; it is done under local anesthesia.
You'll be swollen the first twenty-four hours after surgery.
- Goretex
-
Threads of Goretex can be used to create bulk in the area of the lips. It takes about thirty minutes.
Rarely, the material can become infected and will need to be removed.
- Fat Injections, Dermal Grafts, and Alloderm
- Fat injections are also used to plump the lip. However, resorption can occur leaving your lips
thin as they were before.
-
Dermal grafts involve removing tissue and surgically placing it under the skin of the lips to create
fullness. This procedure is done under local anesthesia.
-
Alloderm is material developed from human tissue and is implanted through small incisions in the
corners of the mouth. This procedure is more expensive than collagen injectables.
Costs
-
Collegen injections cost $350. Gore-Tex implants cost $750. Alloderm costs $2500 and fat injections cost $600 to $1500.
